The DPW Parking Enforcement Management Administration offers a range of services that include parking control, ticketing, towing, booting and impoundment, and removal of vehicles that violate parking regulations. The Parking Control Officers issue tickets for various violations such as expired meters, failure to register a vehicle in the District, obstructing snow emergency routes, and other infractions.
Vehicles with tickets may be towed by DPW tow crane operators. DPW also tows vehicles that pose a risk to public safety or obstruct the flow of traffic. As per District law, vehicles with two or more unresolved parking and/or photo enforcement tickets that are 60 days old are eligible for booting. The Abandoned Vehicle Operation inspectors search for abandoned and dangerous vehicles to investigate and remove them from public and private property. Motor vehicles are the primary source of emissions in the District, and to address this, there is a law in place to limit engine idling.
